Safeguarding adults

Safeguarding adults means helping adults at risk live free from abuse and neglect. This used to be called ‘adult protection’.

Adults may be at risk because of their mental health, physical disability, age or illness. They may find it difficult to protect themselves from abuse.

Everybody has a responsibility to help these adults live free from harm, but particularly staff and volunteers that work directly with them.

If you are worried about an adult, please report this to the Access Service, part of Adult Social Services:

Tel: 020 7527 2299
Email: access.service@islington.gov.uk

The Access Service is open from 9am-5pm.

If the situation is urgent you should always take yourself out of danger and call 999.

You can report your concern anonymously.  However, please give as much information as possible so that it can be followed up. Personal information will only be shared where necessary and in line with the Data Protection Act and other relevant legislation.

To find out more, please see the ‘London Multi-agency Policy and Procedures to Safeguard Adults from Abuse’ which can be found here.
