Islington Environment Forum

Making Fairness Really Fair…

Islington consists of over 190,000 people- at about 33,000 per square mile.

Sharing that land are dwellings, shops, offices, manufacturing and distribution facilities  … and a large area taken up by roads.

Parks, gardens and other open spaces which go to make life tolerable for people are limited by history, geography, biology, finance and by the quality of the council’s vision.

In addition, the quality of the essential but less exciting aspects of our environment – homes, streets, pavements, refuse collection, even the air we breathe –  is affected by what the council does and the efforts and involvement of local people.

We have an urgent and growing challenge to make sure that the quality, benefits and costs of all this are distributed fairly amongst the people.

This has become even more pressing under the Con-Dem coalition regime.
