GDPR Training for VAI Members

February 1 @ 10:00 - 16:00

WHAT IS GDPR?
On 25 May 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)  will be enforced across Europe, including the UK. The GDPR is intended to give individuals greater control over how organisations use their data. It will affect how charities work with data and look after this valuable information. The new laws are more detailed and carry the potential for hefty financial penalties.

TRAINING
The GDPR explains that training is a key aspect of compliance. Therefore, Voluntary Action Islington is offering members FREE* training to help them become GDPR compliant. The courses are comprehensive, interactive and after a full days learning, includes a short examination.

Attendees of the course have an opportunity to understand every aspect of the GDPR from the basics to subject access requests through to the conditions for processing data and data subjects’ rights. The course uses case studies and current news reports to illustrate how data protection works in the real world, how it is misunderstood and frequently incorrectly interpreted.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The training is designed specifically for charitable organisations. Any organisation that processes personal data will need to be GDPR compliant. It would be suitable for anyone that handles or processes the personal data of staff, service users, beneficiaries, volunteers, customers, members and supporters. If you process special category data such as health, sexual orientation and religious beliefs or children’s data this course will help to guide you through your extra responsibilities you have under the new legislation.

THE TRAINER
This course is run by Mark Burnett, who is a fully trained Data Protection Officer. He is an experienced fundraiser and marketer and can offer a unique insight into how GDPR will impact your organisation. He is a director at ClearComm and a member, treasurer and recognised trainer for the Institute of Fundraising (IoF) South East and London regions and member of the IoF Special Interest Group committee for Fundraising Consultants.

HOW TO BOOK
This course is free* for members of Voluntary Action Islington. To book your place, please send the completed booking form to Alessandra at alessandra.delau@vai.org.uk or call 020 7832 5801.
