What we do
We aim to act as both an advocate for the third sector and lead the sector as it responds to change
We support the Islington Community Network, which provides representation to partnerships between the statutory, private and third sectors and we lead on the local Compact, an agreement between the third sector and local statutory agencies about how we will work together.
We engage communities, particularly those who are most excluded
We support active participation in effective local activity at all levels. We host and support the LINk in Islington, the new way for service users and the public to have their say about local health and social care services. We work with the BME Forum to improve the support services and information available to the most excluded communities in the borough. We provide extra support to people from excluded communities to take part in volunteering.
One of our important roles is to develop volunteering
We provide the Volunteer Centre in the borough, through which hundreds of individuals can link up with local organisations and get involved in volunteering.
We are an accredited training centre
We can provide Open College Network accredited training programme in managing voluntary and community organisations. This provides volunteers and staff from local organisations with the training and qualifications they need to run their organisations. We are also working with organisations to achieve recognised quality marks including PQASSA, the Visible quality mark for community centres and quality marks for advice and training provision.
We provide support to many smaller organisations
Particularly we support new and small organisations get started as a charity and develop their services and funding. Our support includes our project to support organisations to manage community buildings.
